Technology Can Help

technology that can help_groovytakeon

That’s it! People need help and in some cases technology is here to rescue. We know that, right?. Here I found a great example how smartwatch technology can be useful not only to measure daily fitness activities but also… in this case, help people with PTSD (Post traumatic stress disorder).

Check this video below and discover how simple mobile app can help people in need. Tyler (creator of the application) has an amazing story about his father that inspired him to develop a smartwatch app to help veterans suffering from PTSD:

In case of PTSD, many people do not want to share the problem with others, they are keeping the difficult situation they are in to themselves. One of the symptoms of PTSD are sleeping issues. And this app can monitor and help people to get that good night sleep. Something so simple like sleep is also so important and disruptive if it’s out of order.

On National Institute of Mental Health website I found an explanation (click here) what PTSD is:

PTSD is a disorder that develops in some people who have seen or lived through a shocking, scary, or dangerous event.

It is natural to feel afraid during and after a traumatic situation. Fear triggers many split-second changes in the body to help defend against danger or to avoid it. This “fight-or-flight” response is a healthy reaction meant to protect a person from harm. Nearly everyone will experience a range of reactions after trauma, yet most people recover from initial symptoms naturally. Those who continue to experience problems may be diagnosed with PTSD. People who have PTSD may feel stressed or frightened even when they are not in danger.

If small device or application can help why not to try it and help people in need. I hope we are going to see more apps like this available on the market. The potential is here, now we need more ideas.
